A brief history of civilization's two greatest inventions, beer and the wheel (humor)

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel.

Beer required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture.

Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery.  That's how villages were formed.

The wheel was invented to get man to the beer and vice versa  These two were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals.
2. Conservatives.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were less skilled at hunting (called 'vegetarians' which was an early human word meaning 'bad hunter') learned to live off the Conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hairdressing.  This was the beginning of the liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men “evolved” into women.  Others became known as girlie-men.  Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that Conservatives provided.

Over the years Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant.  Liberals are symbolized by the jackass for obvious reasons.

Modern Liberals like special flavored beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine spritzers or imported bottled water.  They eat raw fish but like their beef well done.  Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.  Another interesting evolutionary side note: many liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men.

Most college professors, social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, filmmakers in Hollywood, group therapists and community organizers are liberals.  Liberals meddled in our national pastime and invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink real beer.  They eat red meat and still provide for their women.  Conservatives are members of the military, big game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, engineers, corporate executives, athletes, airline pilots, and generally anyone who works productively.  Conservatives who own companies hire other Conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing.  They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production.  Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans.  That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when Conservatives were coming to America.  They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history.  It should be noted that a liberal may have a momentary urge to angrily respond to this post.

A Conservative will simply laugh and be so convinced of the absolute truth of this history that it will be shared immediately to other true believers and to just piss-off more liberals.

• conky_if_running - checks the pidof the required process - same as 1.9x

Conkywx - conky weather program - conkywx weather alerts

There were some requests for weather alerts and sooooo have worked that alert thing out - by default - no user intervention - conkywx will show an alert if wunderground shows any Active Advisory for your location. This will be an "!" exclamation character before the present weather condition. Like it may show "! Overcast" or what ever.

There is also a new element WALERT which will show the actual advisory name like Flood Warning - which is in place for Mississippi area at present.

Now the actual text in that advisory is on another page - and can be quite extensive - and also the radar image - both are ignored by conkywx.

The basic idea is that you get fair warning that there is a weather phenomena which has a potential of messing with your daily life and that you should visit wunderground website to see the details.

In this image you see the same location with and without WALERT - I have used it along with present condition like [WALERT][CT]

I feel this should be fine ;)

With so many changes - focus has been for speed of execution - Magellan [Astronomy] C source is included - Bash is now a good facilitator for conkywx as the data is parsed by the perl module.

Magellan - thanks to the wise Gurus who wrote the original stuff - but had to tailor the code for my use and tweaked for improving data accuracy - My reference data has been the US Naval Obs data on the web. Wiki has more details.

Additions and changes:

• Please do go through the config.conf file as it has many additions
• Language support for display as well as messages
• Magellan - Astronomy module written in C - only weather data now used from wunderground
• Required fonts installer for stand alone users
• Trends code re-written and smoother
• New data parser written in perl
• 16 new elements - please refer to wiki for details

NOTE:

• As many users are using various conky variants - conky is no longer a dependency but however - conky is still required. Please ensure conky - in what ever form - is infact installed. 
• To reduce duplication of effort - conkywx man page now has basic information and has a link to the wiki which is normally being updated real time as changes to conkywx are being made.
• On Arch Linux the new conkywx.conf will be saved as /etc/conkywx/conkywx.conf.pacnew - review the changes and update your conkywx.conf
• If you are using Gnome 3 - own_window_type in the *conkyrc.sh needs to be changed to normal
• In some cases to have conky restart automatically you may need to give a sleep 30 - delay in your conky-start script
• *conkyrc.sh files are configured on XFCE 4.10 with compiz + emerald - you may need to tweak conkyrc examples for your DE

Language Translations for Conkywx

The New Version of conkywx will have the ability to give you display data and conkywx messages in your language.

At present we have Italian Translation done by "Night Train"

I am looking for further translations.

If you can help - it will be great - Just email / message me and we can then get it started.

2 files - one for weather conditions and the other for conkywx messages need translation.

The default Language is English.

• copy of config file /etc/conkywx/conkywx.conf file can be made at $HOME/.config/conkywx - this will then be the user's default conkywx.conf used.

Options in config file

• Arrows to use for forecast trends
• enable_new_version_check

New Arrow Font

• A new arrow font has been added.
• New elements for the arrow display are added, FCTTF, FCTPF - these will show arrows for pressure and temp trends

• Under cirtain conditions conkywx would not refresh
• xml fix for conditions where Units_downloaded was IM
