Conkywx FOUR release

For the latest version of conkywx - click here
Now Conkywx is FOUR - Additions and changes:
  • Satellite images for storms and wind patterns
  • Earth quake/ Seismic data world wide. Multiple locations can be set to watch, set alarm magnitude and more...
  • New Pollen data where available.
  • New UV data site independent - based on your Position and elevation in conkywx config file. Data obtained from ESA / TEMIS refer to conkywx help
  • Tides
  • New design for Anemometer and Barometer
  • New Clock with many styles and option.
  • The algorithms for data extrapolation have been completely re-written.
  • Menu driven help.
  • METAR data is internally translated with module integrated into magellan - the astronomy module.
  • New aircraft pointers for the Wind Vane.
  • Multiple sites supported to get options for current and forecast weather
  • Type conkywx --help in a terminal window after installation to see improved help on a web browser.

NOTE:
  • This version does not support conky 1.10x. There is no conky version 1.10x with cairo bindings at present. Suggest you stay with 1.9x series. If you are not using lua then the latest conky 1.10.0-2 should work - you will need to change the config files to the new lua format.
  • Due to changes in AUR - have included a pre-compiled package as well as a PKGBUILD file - take your pick ;-)
  • As many users are using various conky variants - conky is no longer a dependency but however - conky is still required. Please ensure conky - in what ever form - is in fact installed.
  • To get the best out of conkywx - please install lua support for your conky - this could mean installing conky-all - check your distro.
  • In some cases to have conky restart automatically you may need to give a sleep 30 - delay in your conky-start script
  • Depending on your Perl installation - you may require extra modules - Time::Piece and HTML::Entities are hot favourites ;-)
  • Many of you may find the text in templates out of spec - before you rip things apart - change the xftfont value in the rc file for the template.

    conkywx FOUR conkywx FOUR

    1. Hello Anon

      Great to hear from "Anonymous" - any time lol

      A lot has changed - at a terminal prompt type conkywx --help to see the latest help in your browser.

      Also use the config files that came with conkywx FOUR. You will be guided automagically.

      If it still does not help - perhaps a visit to this Ubuntu forum will help....

  3. Hey param,

    I am loving conkywx, great work!!

    Just one thing, I am looking for the wind direction icons that you used to have a few versions back, the transparent compass icons... Can you point me to where these are or can you send them to me.

    Keep up the great work and thanks

    cheers

    1. Great Scott !!! - You got me by the wrong end lol

      Have not used the wind font version for a long time ....

      I was out of town and saw your message [Android] and "planned" to respond when I got back to civilization ... You know it happens - crap lol

      Thank you for the kind words Sir :-) it feels good !!!

      ${font ConkyWindNESW:size=60}[BF]${font}

      That is the line that gets you wind - I mean the atmospheric version - earlier conkywx versions used that font and are still in use - though now it gets all sexed up with lua.

      No - Lao is an ethnic group [Thai] and lua is NOT their language ;-) - THAT - Sir - is what I thought when I first hit lua somewhere in the web labyrinth ... and to make matters exciting - lua originates from Brazil :-0

      The next version of conkywx will focus on conky 1.10x integration - It works quite well - a few work-arounds are in place "pre-exec", "If_running", "top_name" [lua]. There will be many who will stay with conky 1.9x - so that stays as is and works.

      cheers

    1. Hey Anonymous :-))

      Great to hear from you - that was left by mistake.
      Simple solution...
      in file /usr/share/conkywx/examples/expanded-conkyrc.sh
      The 1st line below 'TEXT'
      ${voffset -14}${lua main -n background -r 25 -c 0x000000:0.2 -p NA,NA}
      change to
      ${voffset -14}${lua main -n background -r 25 -c 0x000000:0.2 -s NA,NA}

      you just change -p option to -s option and you should have the error gone - it will show you a background.

      Shall fix this for the next release :-))

      Thank you for the message.

      cheers

  5. Heya, long time no chat! I've moved around from Arch to Fedora and am currently fiddling on OpenSUSE. Everything is going well but I just had to ask if you've ever posted your conky configurations? I like what you've got going on there and just wanted to kind of check out how that was all setup.

    Take care!
